Winter driving can be particularly hazardous with snow falling, slippery ice and other cold weather dangers. As a firm providing experienced auto accident lawyer, and motorcycle accident lawyer, At Murphy and Pressentin, we wanted to do some research on traffic accidents by season. Is summer driving really much safer the winter driving? Take a look at these figures for the answer to this question.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported 4.6 million injuries and 66,000 deaths and in 2011 and 2012. The NHTSA study does not categorize the injuries by time of the year but it does, however, include a quarterly itemization of traffic deaths. Unpredictably, the largest group of accident-related deaths took place during the summer months, from July to September.
Half of the heightened amount of injuries is a direct result of increased numbers of motorcyclist and bicyclist mortalities. The explanation for the other half of the increase is unknown, however.
